pintuyan Location

Pintuyan, is one of the four (4) municipalities that compose the Island of Panaon in the Province of Southern Leyte.  It is located within the coordinates of 9° 57’30” north latitude and 125° 15’00” east longitude. It is bounded in the north by the Municipality of San Francisco, in the south and east by the Municipality of San Ricardo, and in the west by Pintuyan Bay.

Pintuyan is located 147 kilometers from the City of Maasin, the capital of Southern Leyte, 178 kilometers south of Tacloban City, the Regional Center of Eastern Visayas, and 1032.70 kilometers from the National Capital Region.

Population

The municipality of Pintuyan, located in Southern Leyte, boasts a total population of 10,202 as recorded in the 2020 Census conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). This vibrant and picturesque municipality is composed of 23 barangays, each contributing uniquely to the overall population and character of the area.

Among these barangays, Barangay Catbawan emerges as the most densely populated, with a remarkable 782 residents. This barangay serves as a hub of activity within the municipality, reflecting a concentration of families, livelihoods, and community engagements. On the other hand, Barangay Balongbalong, with only 142 residents, holds the distinction of being the least populated barangay in Pintuyan. Despite its smaller population, Barangay Balongbalong plays a significant role in contributing to the overall charm and diversity of the municipality.

Other barangays with substantial populations include Barangay Ponod, which has 698 residents, and Barangay Son-ok I, home to 644 individuals. Barangay Santa Cruz and Barangay Manglit also stand out with populations of 627 each, showcasing thriving communities in these areas. Meanwhile, Barangays such as Mainit (287 residents) and Lobo (307 residents) reflect the quieter and more rural side of Pintuyan, where smaller populations enjoy the peace and natural beauty of their surroundings.

The diversity in population sizes across Pintuyan’s barangays paints a vivid picture of its dynamic community structure. Some barangays, like Nueva Estrella Norte and Nueva Estrella Sur, which have 409 and 415 residents respectively, reflect steady growth and development. Barangays like Poblacion Ibabao (374 residents) and Poblacion Ubos (559 residents) represent the bustling central areas, often characterized by government offices, marketplaces, and essential services.

Barangay Subdivision

The municipality of Pintuyan is comprised of 23 barangays. Four (4) out of the 23 barangays are urban barangays, namely: Poblacion Ubos, Poblacion Ibabao, Sta. Cruz and San Roque, that has an aggregate area of 300 hectares. 

The other 19 are rural barangays, namely: Nueva Estrella Norte, Nueva Estrella Sur, Dan-an Catbawan, Manglit, Son-ok I, Son-ok II, Caubang, Tautag, Punod, Buenavista, Bulawan, P.D. Equipilag, Canlawis, Badiang, Mainit, Balong-balong, Cogon and Lobo, with a total land area of 3,356.7272 hectares. All of the barangays are coastal barangays except for barangays Buenavista, Bulawan, Tautag and Lobo, which are mountain barangays.
